Piper is an innovative company based in San Diego, CA, that specializes in proximity technology for a variety of enterprise verticals including healthcare, transportation, and public safety is seeking a Verification Engineer who will design, develop, and oversee the execution of test protocols for functional verification of Piper networks integrated systems and software.

This role works closely with our Software team, and will be directly involved in the innovation of technologies in our products, processes, and verification methods. This verification focused Quality Assurance role plays an important part in our company's product development process. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting thorough verification to ensure that end-to-end software components and integrated hardware/software systems run smoothly and meet requirements. Candidates will have the skill set and experience to meet the responsibilities noted below, working in a collaborative, team environment.

Responsibilities:

. Design and implement a Verification plan

. Estimate testing effort and develop an optimal test strategy (manual vs automation)

. Perform testing or provide supervision of technicians to complete testing

. Effectively execute, monitor and troubleshoot prototype and mfg builds as necessary

. Write documentation for test protocols, results and reports

. Insure traceability from requirements/specifications to verification

. Track defects and work with software and cross-functional teams to debug

. Analyze and communicate test results and perform reliability analysis

. Represent and position the company as an industry leader at standards and certification agency meetings and working groups related to rail control and positioning systems

. Ensure proper a safe test methodology

. Perform software process validation of Piper custom tools

. Partner closely with the software, hardware, systems, and quality groups to ensure components of the products meet or exceed applicable specifications and quality goals

. Participate in the development/installation of a continuous testing environment

. Perform software process (intended use) validations of Off The Shelf (OTS) tools

. Support all necessary efforts to ensure safety certification of products.

Requirements:

. BS degree required, in Computer Science, SE, EE or other applicable engineering or science background is preferred.

. 3+ years of professional experience as a test engineer with experience testing both software and hardware

. 5+ years related experience as a validation engineer (medical devices or rail industry preferred).

. SW programming background with applied knowledge of C, C++ preferred.

. ASQ (CSQE, CQE) and/or six sigma certification preferred

. Experience with root cause analysis, failure mode analysis, verification, and validation

. Statistical tools including basic statistical inference, graphical methods, regression

. Experience with:

+ Configuration management, defect tracking, test plans, test protocols, and test execution

+ Git, Jama, Github, Zenhub or similar version control and bug tracking tools

+ Complex Embedded systems

+ Conducting root cause analysis, working closely with software developers

+ Continuous integration frameworks, test automation systems and test case management systems

+ Working across the full life cycle of software development

+ Working across the full life cycle of integrated hardware/software development

+ Excellent communication (verbal and written) and documentation skills

+ Experience with integrated hardware/software systems in medical devices or rail transit systems

+ Hands-on mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical aptitude is a plus

+ Experience with Agile and Scrum methodology

+ Experience working within ISO, EN, FDA standards such as 62304, 50128, 50129
